Hi folks, I'm a new rider and have looked at a bunch of beginer-type bikes. A used Savage seems to make the most sense,it's light, belt driven, decent power, simple design and not bad looking to boot. Yet, every motorcycle dealer I talk to is down on this bike. I'm 6'2" 200 lbs. and I've heard every thing from its a girls bike to its too small for you. Well a HD Sportster or a Virgo 535 aren't more comfortable or sit much bigger for the extra money. I bought a used 1997 Savage anyway. I kinda see the Savage as the Mazda Miata of motorcycles, no, the Savage is not a Harley and the Miata's not a Porche, but their just as much fun!
